Exploring the Ordinary

I have decided to give myself a new personal challenge with my photography and share the results here on my blog. I call it: Exploring the Ordinary, and it will be what the name suggests. So far, the guidelines I’ve set for myself include: pick a subject from everyday life and photograph it from multiple perspectives using natural lighting. I haven’t got all the details figured out yet – I suppose they will develop over time as I work with this challenge.

My goals with this challenge are to push my creative vision further with each subject I work with, to pay closer attention to the way lighting affects a subject, and (since I’ll be working in digital) to practice my new (self taught!) digital-darkroom skills. I expect many of my photos will be more straightforward than my usual “layered” style, though this may not always be the case. I intend to have this be a regular feature on my blog, with a new post coming every week or so.

One last bit: I want to get YOU involved! Not in the form of photo submissions as in my Photo of the Week feature, but by voting for your favorite pick at the end of these features. So take a look and cast your vote!

I took these photos at a local farmers market last week. The mushroom table was just so beautiful the way it was set up. The white canopy providing shade also provided some beautiful diffused lighting!
