Photo of the Week #40.2

Part of my self-appointed challenge as a fine art photographer is to take subjects which have a reputation for being undesirable and find a way to shine a light on their inherent beauty.  I believe that it’s possible to do this with most anything because the inherent beauty of something is directly tied to it’s unique roll in a greater purpose.  Growing in an unplanned location, any plant would be considered a weed by most people – especially one as prickly and difficult to get rid of as a thistle.  But if you take the time to really look at it you begin to appreciate it’s amazing design and how those prickles covering the leaves and stems protect it from being eaten by herbivores so that it’s flower can provide nectar to butterflies.  There is a beautiful cycle in every aspect of this world and everything, from humans to the tiniest microscopic organisms, play an important part.

Thanks so much to everyone that participated this week!

As an early head’s up I’ll be going on vacation soon and this feature will be skipping a week.  The schedule will be the same for next week, but we’ll be skipping the following week (the week of June 17th).  After that the schedule will go back to normal.  I’ll be sending out the full details to my email subscribers in the next few days so be sure to sign up for my email list if you haven’t yet!

Until next time, have fun shooting!
